Paul Levitz is a comic book fan who has worked as editor/publisher of The Comic Reader, editor of the Batman titles and others, writer of more than 300 stories―including an acclaimed run on Legion of Super-Heroes―and a DC Comics executive, finishing his 38-year stint with the company as President and Publisher. He returned to writing in 2010 with a new series of Legion stories and other projects.

COMIC BOOK AWESOMENESS in hardcover form

Talk about a trip down memory lane! Paul's wonderfully BIG hardcover book is at times an interesting read as well as a nostalgic tribute to the glory and beauty that was the Silver Age of comics. Full page reproductions of comics, as well as tons of other pictures will remind you of the time when you were an active consumer of comic books, and make you feel good all over, again. I have just started reading this huge tome and I will say that each time I sit down with it, I am struck by the power of the imagery as well as the words, and I remember why I was so interested in collecting "back in the day". Yes, I not only purchased my stuff off the comic racks in the local supermarkets and magazine stands in the drug store, but also from back issue merchants like Howard Rogofsky and Grand Book Center in New York. The Silver Age was an explosive time in the comics business, and some of the stories Paul tells will enlighten you, while all of them will entertain you. Thanks for a great book!

I wanted to love this book. I really did. I grew up during this era, and as a baby boomer that started reading comics in the early sixties, this should have been a brilliant tour down memory lane. The previous volume on the Golden Age was outstanding, so I expected no less. But the choice of material used and the copies of the comics used left a lot to be desired. I have owned some of these comics in my life, and frankly, DC should have spent a few bucks to get better grade issues for reproductions. Many of these had rolled spines, cracks, dings and they looked like the cat dragged them in. In a $59.99 copy table book like this DC needs to have better quality images. Two Morrows has published a wonderful book on the Silver Age from 196-1964 that is far superior to this. I wanted to see more DC Science Fiction such as The Space Museum or Atomic Knights. Coverage of DC on their wonderful mystery comics was sparse at best. I did like the Flash coverage, but again, the condition of the comics used was rag tag. Don’t they have file copies of these in better shape?
And why so much about the campy, wretched Batman TV show? One page would have sufficed. I would have preferred a cover gallery of Infantino and Adams covers instead.
So, please DC, reprint in color Strange Adventures and Mystery in Space. I have the Adam Strange volumes, and they are nice, but there is a plethora of wonderful sci-fi tales from the late 50’s to the 60’s that need to be preserved, like Atlas has done with their late 50’s tales.
What I did enjoy were the old photos of newsstands filled with the comic books of the day. It was such a different time, before the direct market and comic shops. There were a few stores in Hollywood that I used to go to for back issues like Bond Street Books, Collectors Book Store and Cherokee Comics, but they have all faded into history.
I still want to thank Mr. Levitz for this book. I was a subscriber to his fanzine Wonderful World of Comics back in the early 1970’s and later The Comic Reader. I know that he approaches these projects with his heart in the right place.

Some comic book fans are DC fans or Marvel fans. Well, when I started reading comics there was no Marvel. Not only
was there no Marvel, but there were only three, yes three super heroes---SUPERMAN, BATMAN, WONDER WOMAN.
i know the " silver age " started with SHOWCASE # 4 ( pictured on the book cover ) but really the " silver age " didn't
start until December of 1959 with THE FLASH # 105 ( Imagine, a comic that started with no number one issue ) I know
why it didn't, but buy this book and find that out. After the success of the FLASH, as they say----the rest is history---
GREEN LANTERN, HAWKMAN, THE ATOM, CHALLENGERS OF THE UNKNOWN, ADAM STRANGE, SGT. ROCK,
JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA, SPACE RANGER, DEADMAN, ENEMY ACE, RIP HUNTER, SEA DEVILS, THE
METAL MEN, TEEN TITANS not to mention the MARVEL AGE----the FANTASTIC FOUR, SPIDERMAN, IRON MAN,
THOR, NICK FURY, DOCTOR STRANGE, the HULK, the revival of CAPTAIN AMERICA, the X-MEN and from other
publishers MAGNUS, ROBOT FIGHTER, DOCTOR SOLAR, THE FLY etc.. I know, I got carried away---this book
only covers the " silver age " of DC but that is more than enough----400 pages of DC history that a lot of us baby
boomers grew up reading. I still have some of those comics today---the FLASH all the Infantino issues, GREEN
LANTER all the Kane and Adams iusses, and the Kubert SGT. ROCK issues. All I can say is buy this book and
enjoy !!!

BEST CARE PLAN BOOK EVER!!!

If anyone has had as much difficulty finding the perfect book as I have, they know whats up. So I literally spent 20 hours of research searching for the PERFECT care plan book. After my exhaustive study, I found this little dream of a book!! So why this one?? I chose this book because it gives you EVERYTHING you need to create an A+++ care plan. It includes disease processes, the nursing diagnosis related to the said medical condition, outcomes, and the best part- it includes both interventions with ALL the scientific rationales in an easy to read and fluent manner that makes writing up those dreaded care plans a breeze!! I would strongly recommend this book due to it's all inclusive style and really mean it when I say "This is the best care plan book ever". I bought the 2nd edition which was way cheaper than the newer version for pennies on the dollar and it is just as good as the one's my friends bought for $50 dollars. It's a must have and can be used for all area's of study as it includes Med Surg, Psych, Peds, and OB sections, so you can literally use it all through school!! I am thrilled and I usually don't leave reviews but I hope you take my word that this book is a MUST HAVE!! :)

This Nursing Care Plan book sucks. I bought this because the reviews were good but I have no idea why! There are limited care plans in here. I thought there would be a wide aray but that's not the case. The diagnoses I had to do weren't even in here for the particular disease process. A better recommendation is "A nursing handbook" by Betty Ackley & Gail Ladwig (8th edition)

Great for Anyone Trying to Learn Anatomy

I'm a massage therapist and was starting to forget specific muscles, so I got this to help me refresh my memory. This is a very well done book on the body's muscles with lots of facts about the individual muscles or groups. The pictures are of a good size, so coloring is not a problem and it doesn't look like a mess of colors when you're done. At the beginning of each section are B&W illustrations showing the muscles to be covered from different views, then each page covers an individual muscle, with an illustration you can also color. An excellent resource!!

Great Help!

I have to say this book really helped a lot in my Kinesology class. I actually had no clue a book like this exsisted until my professor suggested that if we wanted a little more help to get this book. I explains everything and provides blank charts for you to test your knowledge and memorization. If you are a nursing student or health science student like myself this book will very extremely helpful for you.

Great tips but outdated plans

This is a great book for anyone interested in learning how to make kites. The only downside to the book is that the stunt kite plans are very dated. Since this book was published in 1996, dual line stunt kites have progressed in aerodynamic design and materials. There are plans for kites on the internet that utilize these new sail shapes and framesets that (in my opinion) would allow a person to make a kite that would provide a more enjoyable flying experience.

I think this book is great for people who are interested in stunt kites. It is very detailed and has accurate pictures. This book has pretty good tips. It lists one liners and different gadgets that are perfect for the beach.

Print on demand...watch out!

Word to the wise: the edition I ordered from amazon appears to be a print on demand. The problem this process poses: for some reason, the punctuation's incorrect throughout the text. Those absences can be confusing, to say the least; they confound the already challenging aspects of Baldwin's late style.

Brilliant Writer, Waning Powers, Atlanta Child Murders

This is the last work published by one of America's most brilliant writers. It's far from his best. If you want Baldwin's best, read Go Tell It on the Mountain and The Fire Next Time. If you're willing to see what an elderly James Baldwin, in his waning powers, but with the accumulated experience of this master-writer's lifetime, could bring to ruminations on the Atlanta Child Murders of 1979 to 1981, then read this book.

More fun with David and Sarah, and zombies!!

In Eat Slay Love we rejoin my favorite post zombie apocalypse married couple, Sarah and David, as they attempt to get to the rumored "Wall" in the east, hoping to find safety from the society that's let them down. I mean, zombies are the ultimate letdown, right? Of course, with these two, you know it's not gonna be smooth sailing, and the seas get pretty rough during this outing. See, there was an incident in the last novel that might have changed David a bit, and Sarah is noticing more and more, well, odd things about him. Sarah is also hoping she'll be reunited with her mom and dad, even though the chances of that are slim. All that aside, they've got some precious cargo with them that could change the face of the world forever. Add to the mix a stalkerazzi journalist that may have her own secret agenda, an aging rockstar that seems to have lost his band, and his wits, to the zombies, a camp full of people that aren't about to let strangers into the mix (think Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome here), and of course all the zombie killin' action you can handle, and you've got a read that you won't want to put down!
I adore this series, and it just keeps getting better and better. Sarah narrates with her trademark snark, and even though you'll giggle, you'll cringe too, because Ms. Petersen lets the dark humor fly, and the story is tempered with moments of levity that will definitely bring you down to earth. This kind of writing is hard to do, weaving humor into admittedly horrid situations, but the author manages with a sure hand and never lets the pacing falter. There are a few twists in this one that left me smiling and the ending leaves off with plenty of material for lots more fun with this kick-ass couple. Do they find the "wall"? Does Sarah reunite with her family? And just what is wrong with David? You'll get your questions answered in this one, I promise, and trust me, you won't want to put it down!

Another great addition to this series!

EAY SLAY LOVE, by Jesse Petersen, is the continuation of the Living with the Dead series following Sarah and David's journey to the "Wall" to (hopefully) get the only known zombie-cure to government scientists to end the zombie/human war. But as usual nothing is easy for this once-almost-divorced couple, they are faced with cults, David's strange new bitten-related behaviors, teaming up with a TMZ-like stalkerazzi, a druggie rockstar...and of course BRAAAAIIN eating zombies.

I have been dying to read this next installment of one of my favorite horror series's, and I have to say I was very pleased!! My favorite still-together (why are there not more of those in fiction?) couple is back with another huge adventure on their hands. I love the relationship between Sarah and David. They truly are my hero couple and I always get nervous when things (zombies, other cute men/women, zombie escape routes involving splitting up) threaten to tear them apart.

I liked how Petersen developed the cure senario with David. He was cured but subtle differences in his behavior suggested he became some sort of zombie/super human hybrid. And Sarah found tooth and nail to keep her once nerd, now buff husband by her side.

The other main characters, Nicole and McCray were annoying at first (probably because I thought they were going to get Sarah and David killed) but they grew on me as the book wore on. A big theme in this book was secrets. Sarah kept the cure a secret, and as I slowly learned more about Nicole and McCray I knew that all kept secrets would blow up in the characters faces at some point.

One thing (of many) that I love about this series is that there are multiple layers to each book. The overall one being to survive, but I love how Petersen makes little adventures and journeys (physically and mentally) for her characters. It really makes this series enjoyable to read. Definitely pick this one up!

A fun romp through the aftermath of a zombie apocalypse

Yeah, I know, it doesn't seem like the words "fun" and "zombie apocalypse" ought to be found in the same sentence, but Eat, Slay, Love really was a fun summer beach-type read. Clearly, a good sense of humor makes even a zombie apocalypse more bearable. I thought the tone of the book was somewhat similar to that of MaryJanice Davidson's Undead series.

A friend loaned me this book and I started it without realizing that it was the third book in the series. The fact that I had not read the first two books did not interfere with my enjoyment of the third, but I did immediately order book 1 from Amazon and have the second and fourth (last?) books on my Wish List.

If you like books about zombies and appreciate a heroine who is always ready with a quip or sarcastic remark, I recommend this book - although I kind of wish I had started with the first one and read them in order.
